About UFOBuster

An open, crowd-funded initiative to build a ground-based device capable of autonomously detecting, tracking, photographing, and collecting telemetry data on any object observed in the sky or near-Earth space.

The Mission

The sky above us is full of activity — satellites, aircraft, debris, weather phenomena, and occasionally objects that defy immediate classification. UFOBuster exists to apply rigorous, transparent, and reproducible observation to everything overhead.

Rather than relying on anecdotal reports or consumer-grade equipment, this project aims to deploy a purpose-built device that operates continuously, captures high-resolution imagery, and generates precise telemetry data for every detected object.

All funding, expenses, and collected data will be made available to backers and the public according to our transparency commitments. This is not a proprietary venture — it is a community-supported scientific instrument.

Core Technology

Motion Extraction

The device continuously monitors the sky using high-sensitivity imaging sensors. Frame-by-frame differential analysis isolates any moving object from the static background regardless of speed, altitude, or luminosity. This approach detects objects that would be invisible to conventional threshold-based systems.

Ray Casting

Once an object is detected, ray casting projects geometric rays from the device's calibrated position through the object's pixel coordinates into three-dimensional space. Combined with known reference points (stars, satellites with published orbits), this determines the object's angular position, bearing, and elevation with high precision.

Voxelization

The observable volume above the device is discretized into a three-dimensional voxel grid. As tracking data accumulates across frames, the object's position is refined within this grid, enabling velocity estimation, trajectory prediction, and approximate size calculation based on angular extent and estimated distance.
